IMPORTANT! Concerning the procedure described in this article, please check your contract/carrier agreement regarding tethering other devices to your iPhone. Additional charges may apply.
If you have have been waiting for the tethering function to appear on your iPhone, there is at last an easy solution.
Tethering means using a mobile device to gain Internet access for another device. In this case tethering will allow you to gain internet access with your Laptop by using the internet connection of your iPhone. Of course you will need to have subscribed to a data plan with your iPhone.
The solution we present today is called MyWi. MyWi is an application by Rock Your Phone, who we already talked about in previous articles. MyWi comes at the price of $9.99, but you can first download a trial version which will work for 9 days.

The nice thing about tethering with MyWi? Not only does it work the 3G and 3GS, but also on the first generation 2G iPhone. Of course the speed is slower since the 2G obviously only runs EDGE.
The features are:
- Create a WiFi Hotspot to connect mutiple laptops or mobile devices to share your iPhone's internet connection
- 40 bit and 104 bit WEP Security to prevent others from accessing your WiFi HotSpot
- Ability to enable USB and Bluetooth Tethering on your iPhone
- Broadcasts the Network Name (SSID) - no need to fuss with creating an adhoc network on your laptop
- Shows up and down bandwith usage
