Qik just released their iPhone app for the iPhone 3GS and can now be downloaded from the AppStore for free. Nevertheless, some of you may be disappointed. Qik has deleted some very nice features in this first official release, probably imposed by Apple.

First of all Qik's app can only upload videos when connected by wifi (the version for jailbroken iPhones works on 2G and 3G networks) and the live streaming option has been removed too. It seems they have already submitted a updated version supporting live streaming to the AppStore but haven't gotten any feedback yet.
The other big disappointment for a lot of users will be that it can only be installed on the iPhone 3GS, whereas the version for jailbroken iPhones runs on all models of the iPhone.
Nevertheless it has some nice new features and we believe this is not the last we hear from Qik.

Here what Qik says about what their app can do:
- Upload videos from your iPhone's Camera Roll

First, this version of Qik allows you to pull videos right from your iPhone 3GS Camera Roll and upload them to your Qik account. So if you've recorded videos with the iPhone 3GS native camera, you can share those via Qik, too. Qik is the only iPhone 3GS app to let you share videos from your camera roll straight to your blog, website, Facebook, YouTube, and all the other networks Qik integrates with.
- Automatic uploading
Once you've stopped recording, your video upload begins automatically - without the hassle of pushing any more buttons or filling out any form fields.
- Shoot video in portrait or landscape mode
Qik is the first mobile video app to let you frame your videos either horizontally or vertically.
- Location sharing while uploading video
Finally, Qik is the only iPhone 3GS mobile video app that lets you share your location while streaming video from your phone. So if you're partying downtown, you don't need to give your friends any address or directions - they can just check out the location information from your Qik stream to see where you are and join in the fun. (Of course, if you really don't want them crashing the party, you can turn off the location sharing feature. :))
NOTE: For now, this is a capture and upload app - not the low latency live video you've become used to with Qik. And for today, this app only works over wifi. But we've submitted an update to the App Store which will have it working over 3G networks, too. We'll let you know as soon as that upgrade has been cleared. In the meantime, play with the wifi version and let us know what you think!
